Background: Network Rail own and operate the railway infrastructure in England, Wales and Scotland covering 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges and viaducts and thousands of tunnels, signals, level crossings and points. Network Rail also manage rail timetabling and 20 of the largest stations in England, Scotland and Wales.
Solution Overview: This NetworkTV installation is in the new Network Rail central London HQ and comprises a NetworkTV Live DVB Gateway running eight DVB-T2 tuners which deliver live news and broadcast channels via set top box decoder units to large format displays in reception, communal and office areas. The system delivers live Freeview channels such as BBC News, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. Users in each room have the capability to choose channels and audio levels via SY button panels or via the handheld remote controls. Alternatively, the Administrator can choose what content or channels are displayed on each TV from the NetworkTV Admin UI.
The NetworkTV system also includes two HD H.264 encoders that encode the internal marketing material, training videos and corporate information output from two Scala digital signage players. The system creates two internal Network Rail TV channels and adds these to the channel line up on accessible by each display.
